The first Locating Menswear workshop took place in London in November 2022, and it gave an overview of the network and its goals, as well as an introduction to the network team and partners. The workshop looked into the role of the archive in menswear. For discussion, participants chose a garment from the Westminster Menswear Archive that was relevant to their research or practise. This object-based activity was created to answer the following questions:
− What is the role of archival collections in the British menswear industry?
− How do garments inform new creative outputs and research?
− How should archives represent, collect, and curate the diversity of menswear?
Researchers and academics from Central Saint Martins, the University of Westminster, Liverpool John Moores University, the London College of Fashion, the University of East London, the University of Southampton, Coventry University, and King's College London were among those who took part.
Participants from industry included Lorenzo Osti and Enrico Grigoletti from C.P. Company, Daniel Milne, Head of Creative at Sevenstore in Liverpool, Danny Fahey, Culture & Partnerships Director at Thirty Pound Gentleman, Judith Rosser-Davies, Operations Director at UKFT, and Tory Turk, an independent exhibition curator.
